I don’t love artist's statements, but I totally understand the purpose they serve. I am, however, totally in-love with painting yet at times I don’t entirely understand the purpose it serves. I do believe the pieces I make help me, and possibly inspire others to explore women’s culture: The icons, history, struggles, fashions, expectations, and more. Or maybe the pieces simply create an opportunity for me to just paint some big-ass eyes and hair! Whatever it is, I’m here for it, and I love them. These portraits at times can be bright and colorful, the subject matter always revolving around the female experience, past and present, dark, and light. With these works, I encourage you to draw your own conclusion, to find your unique connection to the pieces.
