MOVIE JAIL

moviejail
"Movie Jail make hypnotic, airy indie rock."
–BrooklynVegan

“Arty, hooky sonic barrage.”
–MAGNET

“Glassy vibraphone melodies . . . above the frenetic guitars.”
–Under the Radar

“Juxtaposing new wave guitar scratch against lush and shimmering Stereolab-style loungey electronic elements and intricate rhythmic shifts.”
–Treble

“Movie Jail” refers to unspoken sanctions imposed on a director after a failed project. Movie Jail is also a noise-pop band releasing its debut EP on Desperate Spirits Records. Mixed by John McEntire (Tortoise) and featuring McEntire’s own vibraphone as accompaniment, the record brings to mind a post-rock band hired to play an airport lounge, trying to reconstruct decades of pop music based on memory alone. The band is just as likely to cycle through secondhand jazz chords as to careen headlong into jittery new wave territory. Available both digitally and in a 12” vinyl edition, the EP captures all these contradictions and more.
